Habitat for Humanity Affiliates... 12 and Building

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing by building decent, safe, and affordable homes for low-income, hardworking families who cannot qualify for a conventional mortgage. Their mission cannot be fulfilled without the support of volunteers!  At FCB, we understand and value each of our 12 affiliate partnerships including Habitat for Humanity of Florida. FCB supports Habitat for Humanity by; providing CRA Investments for operating support, offering marketing sponsorships of fundraising events, providing volunteers to serve as Board Members, serving on Home Selection Committees, volunteering as mentors, participating in home building, donating vacant lots, and most importantly, purchasing over $20 million of individual loans to provide Habitat with additional capital to continue building new homes.  FCB is proud to support Habitat for Humanity.

The sponsorship brought great exposure to the local Ft. 2nd Annual FCB Blue Day a Success!

Thank you to everyone that participated in our 2nd Annual FCB Blue Day on Friday, April 22nd!  Together, we raised money for our Change for Change account and brought awareness to preventing child abuse.  Lunch potlucks were held, blues music was played throughout the day, and everyone wore blue to show that we're united in this extremely important cause!  Don't forget our Teddy Bear Drive runs until the end of the month so please make a donation and encourage customers, friends, and family to also support our fundraiser!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

During the month of April, FCB will honor Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Please encourage your customers to participate in the following activities.

Teddy Bear Drives - all month

All FCB locations are accepting donations of new stuffed animals. The stuffed animals collected will be donated to local first responders and given to children to provide comfort during traumatic situations.  In many cases, when police respond to child protective services calls, they bring a stuffed animal with them to help calm the child.  This is a simple way we can help children during a difficult moment in their lives.  Please help support our Teddy Bear Drive!  The box for collections should be in all banking center lobbies.

Blue Ribbon Donations - all month

Customers and employees can make a personal monetary contribution to our "Change for Change" fund (DDA 1631849800). The monies collected will be distributed to local charities that support children in foster care. "On any given day, almost 8,000 abused, neglected, and abandoned children live in a foster family home in Florida." - Children's Network of Southwest Florida.

Blue Pinwheels - all month

Blue Pinwheels will be on display daily outside of all banking centers.  The pinwheel is the widely adopted symbol for Child Abuse Prevention Month and represents happiness, health, and hope - three things FCB wishes for today's youth.  Banking Centers - due to limited supply, please bring the pinwheels inside every evening and during bad weather.

Helping Homeless Men, Women, and Children at Broward Outreach

For more than five years, FCB's BSA Specialist Angie Seals-Tanner in Weston, has volunteered at Miami Rescue Mission/Broward Outreach Center's Summer Outreach Day reaching out to Broward's homeless and needy. Serving over 2,500 men, women, and children, many people will make the decision to get off the streets through encouragement to enter one of the agency's life-changing programs by showing those in need that they are not forgotten. There was music, special entertainment, haircuts for the men, special HOPE totes with personal hygiene products, clothing giveaways for men and women, activities for the boys and girls and a delicious meal served by great volunteers.

FCB was honored as a CRA program partner to attend Covenant House Florida's Night of Broadway in Fort Lauderdale to help celebrate 30 years of helping homeless youth and young adults at the nonprofit's signature fund raising event: "Night of Broadway Stars." The one-of-a-kind musical experience took place at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. From the stage of the Broward Center's Amaturo Theater, A-list performers belted out numbers from classics as Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Les Misérables, and more. The performers also worked with Covenant House Florida residents and performed several songs alongside them. "This event is so special because it features Broadway performers who clearly have a heart for the challenges faced by our homeless young people," said James M. Gress, Covenant House Florida Executive Director. "The results were powerful and a clear demonstration of how the show profoundly impacted the kids as well as the stars.

FCB Employees Support "Prevent Child Abuse Month"

The “Year of the Child”
Florida Community Bank and its Associates are committed to supporting local children that are currently in foster care. We will focus on providing support to an assortment of charities throughout the state that are also committed to this mission. FCB support will be provided in an assortment of ways including mentorship, volunteer efforts, event sponsorship, and monetary contribution.

Blue Jean Friday - In April, FCB launched Blue Jean Day where every Friday, employees make personal monetary donations to our Change for Change fund in order to wear jeans.  After much success, the Blue Jean Friday was continued into the summer months.  The funds collected will be distributed to local charities throughout the year that support organization committed to supporting children in foster care.

Back Pack Drive – In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month (April) and National Foster Care Month (May) FCB held backpack drives at all banking centers to collect new back packs to distribute to local children in foster care.  Included in some of the back packs were “Affirmation Cards” where employees wrote personal messages to the children encouraging them to stay strong, positive, and to always believe in themselves.

FCB Blue Day - On April 22, FCB held their first FCB Blue Day where all employees wore blue in support of April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Members of local charities visited various locations to give speeches about preventing child abuse, and handed out treats and goodies to customers.  It was a profound day that brought awareness to a very important cause.   Florida Community Bank President and Chief Executive Officer, Kent S. Ellert stated, “Florida Community Bank hopes our first FCB Blue Day and our back pack drive will serve to spur everyone to be more aware of preventing child abuse and bring awareness and support to the local foster care system.  We welcome the opportunity to support so many local charities that are also committed to bringing awareness to this cause.  FCB takes pride in being in a position to make a show of support in so many corners of our state.”

Year of the Child President’s Oath –  In order to officially kick off FCB’s company philanthropy, Kent signed into effect a “President’s Oath” that declared that FCB was committed to the “Year of the Child”.

Volunteer Oath/Pinwheel Pledge - The FCB Volunteer Oath and Pinwheel pens were sent to all employees to sign a pledge to committing support to FCB’s "Year of the Child" philanthropy and help change the life of a child. The pinwheel is the widely adopted symbol that helps raise awareness about healthy child development.  The pinwheel represents happiness, health and hope.

FCB Supports Girls on the Run

The Naples-area Girls on the Run Event, a continuation of our Year of the Child, was held on April 25, 2015.  FCB team members attended the "I don't sweat, I sparkle" 5k Glitter Run benefitting the Girls on the Run/Glitter Foundation.

Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.  Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-20 girls, teaching life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The 24-lesson curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large.  Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. Important social, psychological, and physical skills and abilities are developed and reinforced throughout the program. At each season's conclusion, the girls and their running buddies complete a 5k running event which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. This results in making the seemingly impossible, possible, and teaches girls that they can do anything they wish to accomplish.

Kathleen Karpovich, FCB Retail Sales Director, is the co-founder of this event in Naples along with her friends at the Glitter Foundation.  "This is our second year with over 300 runners, five middle schools participating, and over $4,000 in scholarship opportunities for the women of tomorrow, " said Kathleen Karpovich.

Supporting Dreams of Homeownership for First Time Homebuyers

The CRA Team partners with numerous community nonprofit organizations and local city/county offices throughout FCB's markets by facilitating first time homebuyer educational programs. During the past year, over 1,000 future homebuyers have attended workshops, homebuyer club meetings and housing fairs as they build upon their dream of owning a home. Offering this first time homebuyer education is very important to the success of FCB's future homeowners. Topics include shopping for a home, the importance of a budget, and maintaining your home once purchased. For many of our low to moderate income borrowers, financial grants are available to support down payment and closing costs including special programs for workforce housing (law enforcement officers, educators, health care workers, firefighters, etc.) and Veterans.

Supporting "Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program" for Teen Girls

FCB's CRA Program supports a very worthy cause.

With over 500 young women in attendance from the South Florida tri-county area, Women of Tomorrow hosted their annual Graduation luncheon for senior high students of their program and their mentors.  They also announced the 2015 College Scholarships Awards during this event. The Graduation Luncheon Event was a beautiful reminder of why FCB supports the community. Since inception, Women of Tomorrow graduates have made a $40 million impact on the economy, which is astounding.  More importantly, what donors are doing to individual lives is outstanding.  Because of community donors like FCB, females are being taught that they are important, that they matter, and that they are not forgotten.  FCB is proud to support our future generations!
